Can I apply the paint effect to any image?

Yes, you can, but I would suggest resizing larger images before applying the G’Mic filter and this process can take a long time to complete on large file sizes. I suggest resizing an image to 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Can I create the effect with G’Mic Plugin?

In theory, you can recreate this same effect in GIMP without using the G’Mic plugin, but it would take multiple edits to the image to achieve the same effect you can apply with a single mouse click!

GIMP is simply an awesome free image editing application but can sometimes be a little tricky to fix issues with the layout of the tool. A few times I have accidentally moved a tool from the original position and found it very difficult to place it back correctly. So with little research, I found out how to reset the layout of the tool in GIMP.

Remove background from an image using GIMP 2.10

There are many different ways to remove a background from an image using GIMP 2.10. We could use a layer mask or the foreground select tool. Both of these methods are good but for the best and most accurate results, it is better to use the Paths tool.

The “Paths” tool allows you to create more complex selections using Bézier Curves, it is a bit like the Lasso tool but with all the adaptability of vectorial curves.

You can edit your curve, you can paint with your curve, or even save, import, and export the curve.

You can also use paths to create custom geometrical figures.

What is the best tool for removing background from an image in GIMP?

In GIMP there are a few different ways to remove a background from an image. I prefer to use the paths tool as this is one of the most accurate tools for removing backgrounds. For more simple backgrounds you can use the fuzzy select tool. The advantage of using the paths select tool is you can re-edit the selection and save the selection in the GIMP file for future edits.

Is layer mask better than the paths tool for making a selection?

A layer mask is also another accurate method of creating a selection, once a selection is done you can use a layer mask to isolate the selected content and remove the background. The layer mask can also be edited if required, but I still prefer to use the paths tool whenever possible.
