In this video tutorial, I will show you how to shorten URLs using Google URL shortener.
You often see a custom shortened URL when you view posts on social media accounts.
The reason for shortening the URL is to make it easier to view and re-share. Also, Twitter limits the number of characters which can be entered in a tweet so shortening a URL can also give you more space for a more concise message.
Using Google URL shortener will also give you some statistics on how many clicks the URL has received, and web clicks came from i.e. Facebook. Twitter, other websites and finally the location of the user who clicked your link.
Mostly this information can also be gathered using Google Analytics, but at DCP we find this a great way to track short URLs which are posted on our social media accounts.
