Uploading images to your WordPress site is a straightforward process and essential for adding visual appeal to your content. Here’s how you can upload images to WordPress, either directly to posts and pages or to the media library for use at any time:

Uploading Images Directly to Posts or Pages

Edit or Create a New Post/Page:

Log in to your WordPress dashboard.

Navigate to Posts or Pages on the left sidebar, and either click on an existing post/page to edit it or click “Add New” to create a new one.

Add an Image Block:

In the Gutenberg editor (the default editor in WordPress), click on the “+” button to add a new block.

Select the Image block under the Common Blocks section or just type “image” in the search bar.

For Elementor use the Image widget.

Upload the Image:

Once the Image block is added, you will see three options: Upload, Media Library, and Insert from URL.

To upload an image from your computer, click Upload and select the image file you want to use. Alternatively, you can drag and drop the image file into the editor.

Adjust the Image Settings:

After uploading, you can adjust the image settings directly in the block toolbar and sidebar. This includes setting the image alignment, adding alt text for SEO and accessibility, and choosing the image size.

Publish or Update the Post/Page:

Once you’ve placed and adjusted your image, continue editing your post or page as needed, then click Publish or Update to make the changes live.

Uploading Images to the Media Library

Access the Media Library:

In your WordPress dashboard, click on Media in the left sidebar, then select Add New.

Upload Images:

You can drag and drop files into the upload area or click the Select Files button to choose images from your computer.

Once the files are selected, WordPress will automatically upload them to the media library.

Manage Uploaded Images:

After uploading, click on any image in the media library to edit its details. Here, you can add or edit the title, caption, alt text, and description. These details are important for SEO and accessibility.

Tips for Uploading Images to WordPress

Optimise Images Before Uploading: To improve page load times and SEO, resize and compress images before uploading them. Aim for the actual size you will display on your site and use tools like Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, or online services like TinyPNG.

Use Descriptive File Names: Name your image files descriptively to improve SEO. Use keywords that describe the image and are relevant to your content.

Set Alt Text: Always set the alt text for images to describe what the image is about. This helps with SEO and accessibility.

Regularly Clean Up the Media Library: Over time, you might accumulate unused images. Regularly cleaning up your media library can help keep your site’s storage and organisation manageable.

By following these steps, you can efficiently manage and upload images to your WordPress site, enhancing your content’s visual appeal and engagement.
